About the Event
John Kameel Farah is a Palestinian-Canadian composer-pianist who embraces aspects of Baroque and Early Music, Middle-Eastern Music, Improvisation and all forms of Electronic Music. In concert, Farah combines the piano with synthesizers and electronics, moving freely between improvisations, soundscapes, and driving, asymmetrical rhythms, referring to his unique concoction as “Baroque-Middle-Eastern-Cyberpunk”. Most recently he performed his own piano works at the Berlin Philharmonic, and performed as a guest artist with Tangerine Dream at the Opera House in Toronto. He is currently writing a piano concerto to be played with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Canada.
This is a rare occasion to see John perform on the main Redwood Stage, with his full complement of synths and electronics surrounding a concert grand, pushing the boundaries of musical genres. The show will include a live video feed on stage of John as he navigates his way around the multiple keyboards that make up the symphony he uses to express his brilliant compositions.
