I’ve thought long and hard about how I would approach producing a retrospective of my life and times as a musician, photographer, broadcaster, and journalist. Over the years, many people urged me to write a book about those early adventures, those endless highways and smoke-filled clubs, the near misses, miracles, friendships, and songs. I did that, in fact, twice. Coming to the 60s: A Rock & Road Story and Rolling Through the 70s: Weed, Woman, and Song.
Those pages captured a time when the country, and perhaps the world itself, seemed to be improvising. We were all making it up as we went along. Music led the way. Life followed close behind.
But books can only take you so far. Words sit quietly on paper. They don’t breathe. They don’t carry the pulse of a piano chord…
