BOWIE BOTS
In his latest project, Mayhew delves into a unique tribute to David Bowie, exploring the personas the legendary musician might have embraced through cybernetic resurrections. For Mayhew, Bowie represents the pinnacle of human creativity, a figure who transcended the boundaries of music, performance, and identity. The Bowie Bots collection is a personal and artistic journey, aiming to keep Bowie's spirit alive while celebrating his innate ability to defy conventional identities.
Mayhew's fascination with robots and automata stems from their historical use in religion to inspire belief and create an illusion of greater power. He draws a parallel to the modern-day advancements in AI and technology, which could potentially lead to a form of digital immortality, transforming humanity into "cybernetic angels." This thought-provoking theme forms the core of his Bowie Bots series, exploring existential questions related to consciousness, religion, and technology.
