About the event
One quiet May morning in Glasgow, the first day of Eid, started as any other — until a van marked Immigration Enforcement pulled up on Kenmure Street. Word quickly spread through community networks that two local men, both longtime residents, were snatched up for deportation. Hundreds of people left their daily lives to rush down to Kenmure Street and put their bodies on the line. One man forces his way under the van to prevent it from leaving. Thousands more supporters pour in, filming, chanting, and blockading the van in solidarity.
Though mostly strangers and with almost no planning, this extremely diverse group organized themselves, taking on essential roles to enable the collective to achieve its goal: protecting its members from government forces targeting the most vulnerable among them.
