Toronto’s historic Redwood Theatre is proud to present An Evening with the Joe Sealy Trio on Thursday, October 16, 2025, featuring three of Canada’s most distinguished jazz artists: Joe Sealy (piano), Paul Novotny (bass), and Daniel Barnes (drums).
Joe Sealy — Jazz Luminary & Cultural Storyteller
Joseph Arthur Sealy, C.M., is a Juno Award-winning pianist, composer, broadcaster, and Order of Canada recipient whose career has defined Canadian jazz for over six decades. Born in Montréal and trained under Daisy Peterson Sweeney—the sister of jazz giant Oscar Peterson—Sealy went on to collaborate with legends including Milt Jackson, Joe Williams, Buddy DeFranco, Sammy Davis Jr., and toured internationally with Blood, Sweat & Tears.
His landmark 1996 recording, Africville Suite, paid tribute to the demolished Black Nova Scotian community of Africville and earned the 1997 Juno Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, cementing his role as both artist and cultural historian. Sealy has also…
