The Comfort of "Evergreen" Classics vs. New Hits

While new AAA releases are visually stunning, I find myself constantly returning to "comfort games" like Minecraft, Skyrim, or Stardew Valley. There is something about the familiarity of these worlds that beats the stress of learning new mechanics. Is it better to stick with a few "favorite" games for years, or are we missing out by not constantly trying new genres?

I think there’s real value in both approaches. Comfort games like Minecraft or Stardew Valley become digital “safe spaces” where you can relax without cognitive overload, and that familiarity can be genuinely good for mental well-being. At the same time, experimenting with new genres can spark creativity and remind you why you fell in love with gaming in the first place. Personally, I rotate between my favorites and short “exploration phases” with new titles. It’s a balance—kind of like revisiting a favorite café while still occasionally checking out a new spot, or even browsing a fun distraction like slots gallery no deposit bonus  just to change the pace.
